Awhile back, I said I’d love to have a tool that would allow me to peek inside filesystem cache and tell me what files (or pages of files) are inside. Well Peter Zaitsev points to the fincore tool, which comes pretty damn close: you give it a file, and it will tell you which pages of a particular file are in core memory.

Yeah, Dave rocks. These tools came from performance work he did with RRDtool & MRTG. It was presented at USENIX LISA, and the paper is online at:

Newer versions of rrdtool have his work in them, which means that tools using it don’t eat machines like they used to. 🙂
how do i turn off the tool update? it updates every time i shut aol down.
